"Rules of Nines"
The "Rule of Nines" is a method of estimating the extent of body surface
that has been burned in an adult. This method divides the body into
sections of 9%, or in multiples of 9%. It assigns 9% to the head, each
arm, 18% to each leg, anterior/posterior trunk, and 1% to the perineum.
This method can be used to estimate the volume of fluids lost by
determining how much of the body surface is burned.
